The Liquid Explorer (Ray van Eeden) grew up in South Africa, surrounded by some of the world’s most impressive landscapes and wildlife. Since an early age he developed an interest in photography and has continuously sought out the best ways to captures natures true intensity and beauty.
With over 30 years of experience in diving it is no surprise that Ray’s passion for photography has followed him underwater.
Although he cut his teeth in the South African diving world, it wasn’t until Ray moved to the Maldives during the mid 1990’s that he grasped the true potential of underwater photography and he was able to start capturing some of the worlds most unique and incredible sights on offer.
Ray has been based with Prodivers dive school on Kuredu Island, in the Lhaviyani Atoll for over 15 years now, and many of the underwater shots that he has been able capture have been taken around the northern Maldivian Atolls of the area.
Although now living in one of the world’s best locations for stunning marine life Ray still travels around the world searching out fantastic opportunities for wildlife and landscape photography, including frequent trips back to Southern Africa, which still offers some of the best possibilities for big game and landscape photography on the planet.
Over the last 40 years the world of photography has seen monumental changes, with the most telling being the development and expansion of the digital era. However the basic goals and principles stay the same, to be able to capture the true magic of the world around us in that one still image, where everything comes together and complements each other so perfectly that natures true power and beauty can be shown.
